Dessert Smoothie: Chocolate Banana Bread

Now you don’t need a fork and plate to eat your dessert, you can just drink it instead! Get the full flavour of your favorite cakes, loaves, and pies but in smoothie form. They have no added sugar, and can give you that extra kick of energy and nutrition to get your day started or boost you during that mid-afternoon (post-lunch) slump.

On the menu this time? A chocolate-chip banana bread smoothie. All you need are some quick basic ingredients and you’ll have it ready in minutes –no baking required.

Ingredients (makes 2 servings)

1 banana, frozen, sliced
1 tbsp dark chocolate chips1/2 cup milk
5 ice cubes
1/4 cup cashews

Instructions

  1. Slice and peel the frozen banana
  2. Combine everything in a blender, and blend until everything is mixed
  3. Pour into cup and garnish with straw, chocolate chips

Now you’re set to sip your dessert –guilt free!

Apple- Peanut Butter Bundles!

We all get it — that mid-afternoon craving for something sweet. It comes, and never goes. Not until we often end up stuffing our face with chocolate, or cookies, or whatever else does the trick. But in all honesty, there are better options. So make yourself a healthier alternative instead. These apple-peanut butter bundles pack plenty of crunch, sweetness, and flavour–all without added sugar. Try them out!

Ingredients:

3 Tbsp plain, unsweetened peanut butter

1 Granny Smith apple

4 tsp muesli cereal

Directions:

  1. Wash and slice the apple into 3/4 inch thick portions. Make sure that the centre and seeds have been removed.
  2. Spread enough peanut butter to generously cover each slice.
  3. Sprinkle the muesli cereal on top of the peanut butter.

Now all that’s left is for you to bite in, enjoy, and kick that sweet craving to the curb with a great snack.

Savoury Saturday Brunch Scones!

Scones are often made to be sweet, but sometimes we need a break from all that sugar! Switch things up with a savoury alternative –they’re great for serving at brunch, or grabbing for a snack on the go.

This recipe is extra yummy, with crispy bacon bits, warm cheddar, and a hint of dill and chives! To make it even better, you can add smoked salmon and butter once baked. Try it out for yourself, it’s sure to become a favourite!

Ingredients:

3 cups of flour

2 tsp salt

4 tsp baking powder

3/4 cup butter

1 egg

3/4 cup milk

1/2 cup bacon bits

1/4 cup fresh chives, finely chopped

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 410 degrees Fahrenheit

2. In a large bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt, bacon bits, and chives.

3. Mix in the butter, and knead until you have a crumbly texture.

4. Beat the egg and milk together in a separate, smaller bowl. Add to the butter/dry ingredient mixture little by little, until your dough has formed. Knead until smooth.

5. Split the dough mound in 2 rounds. Roll out each into 1 1/2 -2 inch thick circles. Cut into quarters and round out the edges with your hands.

6. Place onto a greased baking sheet, and bake for 20-25 minutes depending on your oven and until golden brown. Let scones completely cool before enjoying!

Mint-Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwiches 

  

Summer is short! So indulge in ice cream because before you know it, you will be sipping on hot chocolate and tea to stay warm. 

There are many ways to enjoy the seasonal treat, including one of everyone’s favourite- the ice cream sandwich! If you have time on your hands, you can of course make your cookies and ice cream from scratch. But let’s face it, there are better things to do when the sun in shining. 

To cut down on prep, use ready-made ingredients. And no, this doesn’t mean sacrificing taste. The secret to achieving a gourmet flavour is coming up with fun combinations that give classic vanilla and chocolate some serious competition! The recipe below is oh-so-tasty and quick to make — as quick as it takes to bake and cool the cookies. 

Ingredients

Frozen oatmeal chocolate chip cookie dough

Mint chocolate chip ice cream

Instructions:

1. Bake the cookies according to package instructions.

2. Let cool completely. 

3. Scoop your ice cream on to one cookie, and place the other on top! 

That’s all there is to it –1, 2,3 and they’re ready to enjoy!

Keep Your Cool: Pink Lemonade Ice Pops

  
T’is the season for steamy temperatures! To cool down, we often turn to a treat that has been enjoyed for generations –popsicles! But why run to the store and risk heading into the heat when you can make them at home? Plus, this was you can make whichever flavour you crave.  

Try these pink lemonade pops with a kick of limoncello liqueur –the grown-up version of a kids’ classic (and perfect way to keep your drink chilled)! To make them, all you need are three ingredient and five minutes. 

Ingredients (makes 4 servings):

2 cups raspberry lemonade 

1 lemon, sliced 

Limoncello liqueur 

Popsicle moulds 

Popsicle sticks 

  

Instructions:

1. Place the lemon slices in the Popsicle moulds, lining them up against one of the corners or twisting them to create texture.

2. Pour the lemonade into the moulds and place the sticks 2/3 of the way in. Secure with tape if needed. 

3. Leave them in the freezer for a few hours or overnight, and enjoy!
