Apple Juice All Grown Up: Spiced Apple Fizz


When I think of apple juice, grade school lunches and pre-nap snack time come to mind. But this beverage doesn’t have to be stuck in the past. With a few spicy adjustments, you can take the drink from kid-friendly to all for adults. It’s the perfect pairing for holiday party meals and sophisticated enough for a grown-up palette.

Here’s how you can make your very own:


1 liter apple juice
1 tsp cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
1/2 orange, zest
1 can Sprite or 7 Up
8 oz chapmagne (choose a sweeter one like Martini)


1. Pour the apple juice into a large pot and place over medium heat, along with the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and orange zest.
2. Bring to a boil and simmer for approximately 1-2 minutes. Let cool completely, then place into the fridge overnight so the flavours can further infuse.
3. Take out of the fridge and pour into a pitcher through a strain. Combine with Sprite or 7 Up and the champagne.

That’s all it takes –boil, cool, serve, and savour!

Spiced Ice-Tea Cocktail


As the temperatures cool, your drinks don’t have to! Add some heat to your cocktails with mulling spices. This orange pekoe/Cointreau mix is amazing, not to mention low in calories. We all know how sweet vodka-crans can be. After one too many, the hangover is that much worse because you’re also crashing from a sugar rush. But throw tea into the equation and things may be different. Happy Saturday!

Ingredients(serves 1):

1 cup of water

1 orange pekoe tea bags

1 tsp mulling spices (Williams-Sonoma sells a yummy mix)

1.5 oz Cointreau


The how-to:

1. Bring the water to a boil, and steep the tea with mulling spices for 3-5 minutes. Strain and let cool

2. In a cocktail shaker, combine the tea, Cointreau, and a couple of ice cubes. Shake it all up (great workout, no?)

3. Pour into a tall glass filled halfway with ice, and enjoy
