One Necklace, Two Ways: The Perfect Workday Accessory

Necklace_2

You don’t need a ton of pieces to make your wardrobe work! Just become best friends with the basics and you’re set to pull together an effortless outfit in seconds. But one thing is guaranteed to tie it all together –an eye-catching accessory. One of my favourites? The Gem Necklace from Foxy Originals. With just the right amount of sparkle, this piece is ready to rock with you from day to night. Here’s how to wear it no matter where your busy schedule takes you!

Nine to Five

“What will I wear to work?” It’s a question we ask too often, especially when Monday rolls around! To make things easier (and much faster in the morning), choose a classic white shirt, black pants, and throw on a patterned coat or poncho for added flare. But to really make the outfit pop, pair it with Foxy Orginals’ Gem Necklace –it’s the perfect piece. Though I styled mine with fall-appropriate attire, it works just as well with dresses, skirts, and blouses.

Necklace

After-Hours

Sure, the Gem Necklace does its job from nine to five, but it works just as hard overtime. The secret to changing it up when your duties for the day are done? Double-up the necklace to create a shorter piece. Wear it with a strappy black top, leather leggings, and a brightly coloured clutch –you’re ready to head out on the town!

option 2

There you have it –one necklace, two ways!

DIY Sunday: Make Easter Glam with Glittered Eggs

Easter eggs, glittered eggs, Easter DIY, Easter crafts, coloured eggs

Easter is just a week away and with that holiday on the horizon, it’s time to get crafty. Of course, food, family, and the feast that usually ensues is the focus, but decorating the eggs is often what makes all of it fun. Traditionally, they are to be painted a deep shade of red –the hisotry of which you can read all about by clicking here!

You don’t have to stick to tradition because in certain cases, rules are made to be broken. So rather than putting all of your eggs in one colour basket, try a new look and glam them up with glitter!

Materials:

Hard boiled eggs, white

Egg dyes or acrylic craft paint

Large glitter flakes (not the fine, dust kind)

White glue, dries clear

Egg holder

Eggprep

Instructions:

1. Colour your eggs with the dye shades you have selected, according to packet instructions. Let them dry. If you are using craft paint, apply it to one side using a sponge brush and let dry, then pain the other side and rest it on dry side.

2. Take your freshly coloured, but dried eggs and place them in an egg holder. With a crafts sponge brush, apply the glue to the top half of the egg I’m a downward motion, sweeping less as you reach the bottom in order to create an ombré effect.

3. Before it dries, sprinkle generous amounts of glitter onto the glue-covered end of the egg. Make sure to place a napkin or paper underneath to catch the flakes that didn’t stick, and re-use them!

4. Place it in the egg holder to dry for at least 30 minutes, with the glittered end facing up.

What are your favourite Easter traditions? Do you have any twists to the classic foods and customs?

DIY Sunday: Crafting Tape Gift Tags

DIYlabel

It’s time for another installment of DIY Sunday: one of the more fun blog posts to write and make because it means it’s time to get creative! This week, you’ll be learning how to make craft tape gift tags. They can be used at any time of the year, for any event, and with any item. Clip it on to a box, or a paper bag, and watch your wrapping rise to the occasion.

What’s great about these, is that they can be personalized. Depending on the stamp you choose to use, they can spell out the recipient’s name or just say thank you (loot bag tags, right?). Not to mention, there are so many options of tape! So take out your sharpest scissors and ink pad, and start making yours. Here are all the secrets:

Tools:

Patterned Crafting/Scrapbooking Tape

Stock paper, beige or ivory

Mini coloured clothespins

Stamp

Ink pad, black

Scissors

TAGprep

Instructions:

1. Find the template of a tag you like online, and print it. Cut it out, and trace its outline onto the stock paper that you have chosen.

2. Cut that out as well using your scissors.

3.Measure a piece of tape that covers the bottom of the tag from end to end, and rip it so that it is a little longer. Line it up perfectly parallel to the edge of the tag and stick it on, wrapping the edges around to the back.

4. Attach the mini clothespin to the tag, and you can clip it on to bags, ribbons, boxes, and cards!

With those four steps, you’re set to start gifting! What was the nicest wrapping you’ve ever received? Leave your thoughts in the comment section or tweet @ThePoshDish.

DIY Sunday: The Jewelled Oxford Shirt

DIYshirtAn Oxford shirt is a classic, whether layered under cardigans or peeking out from cable-knit sweaters. But whichever way you wear it, the collar is often the one that stands out. So why not make it dazzle? Sow on some jewels and skip the need for a necklace  –this DIY will show you how!

Tools:

Thin clear fishing wire

Needle

Assorted flat jewels

Glue stick

Plain Oxford/collared shirt

Steps:

1. Pick out your jewels, and spend some time deciding the pattern in which you will arrange them.

2. Once that’s settled, apply glue to the back of each and stick them in the position that they will be sown. This will prevent them from moving around until they’re secured with the fishing wire.

3. Sow each one on, tying a knot at the end. Cut the thread and voila!

Layer with your favourite frock or tuck it into a skirt for instant glam.
