When we think of summer, we often associate the warmer weather it brings with shorter hemlines, long weekends, and parties by the pool. But the fun doesn’t have to end there! You can jazz up your eye-wear. That’s right, make a spectacle of yourself and sport frames in daring colors, and cool shapes to match your sunny disposition. With endless prescription frames and sunnies to choose from, Warby Parker has you (and your eyes) covered!

Known for their affordable men and women’s glasses that don’t sacrifice style for price, the American company is based online, but opened a number of showrooms,  and recently expanded to the Canadian market. How great is that, eh? And because with every pair purchased one is also donated to someone in need, why not stock up on a few –a splurge you can finally feel good about! Here are four styles from their newly launched Summer Collection 2014 that are sure to suit your taste:

For the Guys:

Green With Envy: Tinted in a green shade that promises to make others jealous, the Ormsby Whiskey Tortoise frames will look great paired with a denim shirt, khaki chinos, and slim loafers.

Timless with a Twist: The rectangular shape of the Mitchell Olivewood frames is a classic! Sure, we’ve seen this style worn by scholars, celebrities, and the cool downtown crowd, but you’ll fall for these glasses’ amber shade, reminiscent of tropical sunsets. Throw on colored shorts, and a laid-back white tee for an effortless look.

And the Gals:

Spot On!: With a rounded shape and brightly speckled texture, these playful Lyle Hanalei Tortoise frames are a statement piece on their own! So when planning your outfit, stick with neutral and patternless frocks from head to toe. But if you dare walk on the wild side (as these glasses should inspire you to), wear them with a fun denim romper!

Show Your Stripes: The Banks Striped Sassfras are sunglasses fit for a diva! To play up the glamor that they evoke, opt for a white button-up blouse tucked into a midi pleated skirt for an outfit that is oh-so-Audrey Hepburn.

DIY Sunday: Wrapping Paper& Gift Bag Wreath

holidaywreath

With the holiday season in full swing, we’re surely buried in mountains of gift bags, boxes,  and wrapping paper. Not to mention, all those shopping trips have left us with more bags than we’ll ever use to carry our lunch. But that doesn’t mean they have to be thrown out! Those things can come in handy for when it’s time to decorate. You can make a wreath so fantastic, the neighbors will ask for one too. Here’s how to put it together:

Materials:

Wrapping paper

Gift bags or paper shopping bags

Scissors

Thick needle & thread

Thin wire

Stapler

WREATHsteps

Instructions:

  1. With a sharp pair of scissors, cut up 7x7cm squares of your chosen papers.
  2. Scrunch up each one from the bottom, like a flower.
  3. With a thick needle, thread each one on to a string in your desired pattern. When complete, tie a knot at the end and staple the two end  papers together.
  4. Mount the finished wreath onto a circle shaped wire, by tying it with string in 4 quarter areas.

Now you’re all set to deck the halls! The wreath can look fabulous on your front door, or just as great used as a table centerpiece.

DIY Sunday: Keeping a Clean Desk

organized desk

A workspace should be clear, clean, and under control –whether at home or at the office. With all the things on our to do lists,  it may be the last thing on our mind but getting organized is the first step to tackling the rest. And you know what’s always a mess? No, not the desk surface itself. The fact that it’s probably buried beneath books and paperwork is a whole different story. I’m talking about organizing trays and pen/pencil holders. Somehow, they always end up stuffed with a lot more than they should be. Hair ties, chocolate,  and candy from LAST year’s Halloween? Please clear that out before Willy Wonka seeks revenge.

The secret is to keep things in clear containers, that way you’ll have to keep it neat. Choose pretty glass jars in different shapes for added interest. Scroll below to learn how!

Before

What you’ll need:

1 old jar (jam, pasta sauce, if it’s pretty it works)

1 candy jar or elongated glass

1 pack of pencils

white erasers

Instructions:

It’s really as simple as choosing which jar is for erasers, and which is for pencils& pens! Once that decision is out of the way, fill them up and watch your desk become the fairest of them all.

DIY Sunday: Make Your Mark with Eraser Stamps

DIYstamp

Make your mark with these quick to craft eraser stamps! They’re a great (and cheap) way to personalize cards, plain wrapping paper, and envelopes. Pen pals, far away lovers, and even an old friend will be thrilled when your letters arrive in the mail. YES, letters. While  emailing and Facebook are fantastic, I’m still a fan of putting pen –and stamp, to paper.  Just don’t try them on a credit card bill –while anyone can appreciate a good effort, a stamp won’t save you.

This is what you’ll need

Supplies:

Pack of erasers

Pen/pencil

Utility knife

Stamp blotter or acrylic paint

Keep scrollin’ to see how it’s done!

Prepstamp

Instructions:

1.  Get all your supplies ready and lay them out on a crafts cutting board or old newspaper

2. Depending on their size, cut your erasers in half (you want to end up with squares)

3. With a pen or pencil, draw the outline of any shape you’d like your stamp to be. Carefully cut around the outline with a utility knife. Chip away the eraser around it in order to be left with a relief of your shape.

4. Cover the surface in acrylic paint of your choice or use a stamp blotter, and get ready, set, stamp!

DIY Sunday: Document Clip Bookmarks

Bookmark

Make your mark with these document clip bookmarks! Yeah, you can get a paper one with your book purchase but those don’t last long. And they’re not personalized. So add some flair to your pages with this easy to make project. It’s time to say goodbye to dogears –after all, books are for reading not origami.

Here are the materials you’ll need:

1 small document clip

Ribbon, rope, shoe laces, twine, string, or any material that you’d like to use

Scissors

Scroll down for the instructions!

Bookmark2Instructions:

1. Take your material and measure the length that you would like your bookmark to be. Cut it at double that length because you are going to fold it in half.

2. Pull it through one of the clip’s loops.

3. Tie one knot in the middle, and then another to secure the material all while ensuring it remains untwisted.

And there you have it. Bookmarks to call your own.
